CASA 1910 CUCHILLO PARADO | CIGAR REVIEW

APRIL 2, 2023 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

CASA 1910 CUCHILLO PARADO ROBUSTO (5 x 50)

WRAPPER: MEXICAN SUMATRA

BINDER: MEXICO, NEGRO SAN ANDRÉS

FILLER: MEXICO, NEGRO SAN ANDRÉS

Cuchillo’s perfect draw brings forth earth, tame honeysuckle, a dash of chocolate, and a dusting of oak. Not sawdust, but a dusting of oak. The retrohale and finish are a bit more modest. Earth and leather in the retrohale, and chocolate garnishes a big helping of leather on the finish.

Wood, spice, chocolate, and a general sweetness float around the room. Wood and spice being the most dominant of the four.

While I don’t have a particular song in mind today, I’m thinking about the movie score for Léon: The Professional. I just watched that movie again, and I forgot that I had purchased the deluxe edition, which has more footage of the relationship and missions involving Léon and Mathilda. In the theatrical or standard version, most of that is cut out, and I must say I prefer the standard version because the relationship between Léon and Mathilda is a bit weird in the deluxe version. Léon appears to take on the role of “hey knock that off” in the standard version when it comes to Mathilda. In the deluxe version, the relationship becomes dang near creepy. I can’t recommend the deluxe version. Either way, the music is perfect. That’s a detail I had forgotten about the movie. I doubt there will be any TikTok dances going around featuring that music, which, frankly, gives it even more credibility as far as I’m concerned.

Halfway through, and the burn charges along without one bit of assistance.

Cinnamon, sugar, and bits of graphite slowly trickle into the draw. I’ll take the cinnamon and sugar, but the graphite can take a hike.

Leather, dark chocolate, and a pleasant floral note flow through the nose. The finish begins with unsweetened tea, which quickly fades, making ample room for leather and dark chocolate.

Cuchillo is the standard version of Léon: The Professional. Stays in line, adds very little weirdness (graphite), and is rather enjoyable.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 28 mins.

RATING: 3 / 4 - Sticking with the standard.
