Rubicon initially brings heavy doses of spice and earth. There’s some type of chocolate lingering in the back, but it’s overpowered. Maybe later, buddy.

Draw starts out a bit resistant but loosens up fairly quickly. The initial spice tapers out quickly as well.

Lightly salted sweet butter briefly makes its way into the mix. The former indistinguishable chocolate has now clearly become milk chocolate while still hanging fairly far back. Dried fruit flows through from time to time without causing much of a stir.

Subtle leather and a tingling spice rest on the palate between pulls.

Solid ash. Rubicon burns how a cigar should be expected to burn, requiring no work from me. I like being lazy when I’m enjoying a cigar.

Fruity coffee grounds splash on the finish and dissipate rapidly.

Rubicon smooths out and becomes somewhat bland at the halfway point. Remnants of both milk chocolate and light coffee are all that remain. Makes me wish I would’ve brought something a bit more exciting than water to pair with it.

Later down the road, leather kicks a bit heavier on the finish. That’s about it. Seemed like Rubicon had so much potential.

Kind of feels like thinking your son might become a pro quarterback because he liked throwing a football when he was five, only for him to end up despising sports and becoming a mediocre dancer. Oh well.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 39 mins.

RATING: 2.75 / 4 - Oh well.
