DIESEL ATONEMENT | CIGAR REVIEW

MARCH 19, 2023 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

DIESEL ATONEMENT TORO (6 x 52)

WRAPPER: ECUADORIAN SUMATRA

BINDER: CONNECTICUT BROADLEAF

FILLER: NICARAGUA

Atonement speaks with a smooth, earthy voice. Oak and chocolate blend together, adding some depth, and spice closes the door behind itself on the exhale. Chocolate and cherry flow through the retrohale. There’s a bit of dirt on that cherry. Chocolate and earth sit comfortably on a foundation of spice through the finish.

Smoke takes over the room, and the draw is easier than sellin’ a box of Twinkies to a fat kid.

Whenever I smoke, a song finds its way to my head. Today, that song is Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana”. Why? I have no idea. I was never a Michael Jackson fan, and I couldn’t tell you the last time I heard that song. For whatever reason, it’s bouncing around in my noggin.

If I were to guess, Michael Jackson probably popped into my head because my daughter randomly asked about him a few days ago. No idea why she was thinking about him. And then a buddy of mine sent me a message a few days ago as well. That particular buddy was a huge Michael Jackson fan. He might still be a huge Michael Jackson fan. I have no idea. I also still have no idea why “Dirty Diana” appeared. Whenever I think about Michael Jackson, I think about Weird Al’s parodies of his songs. Great. Now I have “Fat” stuck in my head.

Atonement’s burn strolls all around, but it ends up correcting itself for the most part. Definitely not as smooth as Michael Jackson’s moonwalk. I have to admit, the moonwalk was kinda cool.

Chocolate takes on a bit of darkness, spice continues, and dirty cherry joins them on the pull. And just like that, “Dirty Diana” plays again.

Dark chocolate and freshly tilled dirt sweeps through the nose. Coffee, understated leather, and bits of dark chocolate meld together on the palate.

The strongest super glue known to man was used on the main band. It used to be rather nice. It’s ugly now.

My lighter eventually gets used again to clean up some minor burn issues. Not a deal-breaker.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 43 mins.

RATING: 3 / 4 - Dirty Diana
