OLMEC MADURO | CIGAR REVIEW

AUGUST 10, 2023 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

OLMEC MADURO TORO (6 x 52)

WRAPPER: MEXICAN SAN ANDRÉS

BINDER: NICARAGUA

FILLER: UNDISCLOSED

Cocoa, dark earth, and spice hit from the top. All three rest on the finish as well with dark earth and spice digging deep into the palate. Fruity earth and a dash of coffee grounds flow from the retrohale.

Earth, suede, spice, and wood dance off the foot. I’ve never seen anyone with two left feet. Anyway.

Perfect draw. Plentiful smoke output. A fairly solid ash breaks off a fairly straight burn line.

Olmec stirs a pinch of buttercream frosting into a pleasant coffee and cocoa mix. Tasty. The finish continues to mimic the draw. Tasty.

I’ve been on a Reel Big Fish kick the past few days. I wasn’t all in on ska as far as the wardrobe goes, but I always appreciated the musicianship. A lot of moving parts. Most of them were very solid live, Reel Big Fish being no exception. I’ve probably said it before, but it bears repeating. An awesome studio album is one thing, but an awesome live performance is a completely different and much more awesome thing. Hats off to all the awesome live performers out there.

If Olmec were a musician, you would be quite satisfied with its live performance. Not that there’s really a studio equivalent. Actually, would the equivalent be a NFT cigar? I have no idea.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 25 mins.

RATING: 3.25 / 4 - Good live performance.
