FEBRUARY 10, 2022 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC
PLASENCIA RESERVA ORIGINAL ROBUSTO (4 3/4 x 52)
WRAPPER: NICARAGUA
BINDER: NICARAGUA
FILLER: NICARAGUA
The Reserva offers a first draw of earth, subtle milk chocolate, sugarcane, and wood. Earth and sugar breeze through the retrohale, nearly undetected. Spice, wood, and sugarcane rest on the finish with spice dominating.
Clouds of smoke flow from the exhale after an easy draw.
Sugarcane and brown sugar tussle a bit for top spot. A touch of honeysuckle coats the palate. Honeysuckle? Did I just write a line for a country song?
Earth, dark wood, and floral notes drift from the Reserva’s foot smoke.
Solid ash breaks away easy. Probably could have held on longer, but who really wants cigar ash on them? On second thought, I’m sure somebody somewhere has a thing for that. Anyway.
Sweetened timber and coffee walk in a straight line. Coffee mixes with cream through the nostrils. Coffee and spice linger between draws.
The burn tends to wander a few steps from time to time but always finds its way back. Live your life, bud. Sage advice. Maybe.
Hats off to the welder who applied the bands. Won’t be selling those on eBay.
Coffee, sugar, and cream share space with oak. An oak coffee mug? Probably looks cool.
A shot of sugar-laden oak hits on a pull. Nice.
Sugar warms the nose, followed up by coffee and a touch of leather. Aged leather? No idea.
Coffee drops the cream and sugar on the finish. None of that fancy stuff anymore. Sorry pumpkin spice lovers.
The third band takes a little less work than the previous two. Master welder.
Sugar and oak mingle with coffee, and the slightest bit of metal embeds itself for a few pulls. Pre-corncob nubber.
Spice lingers throughout the Reserva at just the right ratio.
Sweet cereal. Small breakfast, I guess. Counting calories. Brown sugar makes another showing. Never going to fit into that bikini now. Remember the Atkins diet?
SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 30 mins.
RATING: 3.25 / 4 - An oak coffee mug sounds cool.
