PUNCH SPRING ROLL | CIGAR REVIEW

JULY 9, 2023 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

PUNCH SPRING ROLL PETIT ROBUSTO (4 1/2 x 50)

WRAPPER: ECUADORIAN SUMATRA

BINDER: U.S.A. BROADLEAF

FILLER: COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, MEXICO, U.S.A. BROADLEAF

Prior to hitting the wrapper, sweet hay, spice, subtle milk chocolate, and a sprinkle of grass hit the palate. Draw and smoke output are perfect. I dig the band.

Burning into the wrapper, the retrohale brings out some dark earth with just the right mix of spice. Coffee, spice, dark chocolate, and dark earth move around on the finish. The pull keeps to most of what it had, minus the sweet hay and add in some dark earth.

A smooth roll. Pun intended.

Notes of chocolate, wood, and spice flow through the room. A clean vegetal note mixes in from time to time.

A slight sugary sweetness joins in just past the halfway mark, the spice remains steady in the midrange, and everything from before remains fairly consistent, flowing in and out from time to time like party guests hopping in and out of the pool. I don't have a pool...or parties.

The burn waves a bit here and there, but the good ol’ smoke roll™ evens it out for most part. One major burn touch up was necessary. No big deal.

It’s nice to have a few more Spring Rolls waiting for me in my humidor.

My fortune on the underside of the band reads, “Every time you smoke a Punch cigar, an Angel gets its wings.” Doing the Lord’s work here at Comedy - Cigars - Music.

SMOKE TIME: 59 mins.

RATING: 3.25 / 4 - A smooth roll.
