ROOM101 DARUMA | CIGAR REVIEW

JULY 20, 2023 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

ROOM101 DARUMA 2023 RANFLA (6 x 50)

WRAPPER: NICARAGUA

BINDER: NICARAGUA

FILLER: NICARAGUA

I dig the gold and black on this Daruma. I also dig the draw and smoke output, which are excellent. Speaking of the draw, the Daruma introduces itself with some light earth, a deep stone fruit core, sweet wood, and a dash of spice.

Light earth and lighter coffee blow through the nose. Leather, stone fruit, coffee, and spice rest on the finish.

Aromas of sweet wood, juicy fruit (not the gum), and Tootsie Roll fill the room. Yep, Tootsie Roll. Not complaining.

At the request of my youngsters in the house, I’ve caught up on all but the last of the Transformers movies. It’s been one of those rare series for me where the sequels and prequels get better as they go along. The first two, which I saw closer to the times they were originally released did a good job of lulling me to sleep, but the rest of them have kept my interest. They started mastering the action to downtime ratio, which is a key component in action movies. You know? More action, less downtime. Apparently, it can be quite tricky.

Sweetness slowly fades a few notches from Daruma as coffee and leather become a bit heftier and more prominent. The burn works well by itself, requiring no more from me than a few smoke rollsâ„¢ and one minor touch-up. Easy enough.

Daruma isn’t a Transformer or a movie. It’s a cigar, but it did a good job of keeping my attention. Kudos.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 37 mins.

RATING: 3 / 4 - More action than downtime.
