ROOM101 THE BIG PAYBACK 70s | CIGAR REVIEW

SEPTEMBER 28, 2023 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

ROOM101 THE BIG PAYBACK 70s (7 x 70)

WRAPPER: HONDURAN OLANCHO SAN AGUSTIN

BINDER: U.S.A. CONNECTICUT BROADLEAF

FILLER: NICARAGUA, HONDURAS, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Earth, nutty sweetness, spice, butter, and a subtle underlying fruit provide the first impressions of The Big Payback. The smoke output is substantial, and so is this cigar. Smooth draw.

The retrohale has some earth and salted butter. Plain popcorn chills out on the finish. Clean.

Earth and sweet spices flow from the foot.

If one were to say the vitola is obnoxious, the same could not be said about the performance so far. The Big Payback acts more like a performer who desires no personal attention, but instead strives for an undistracted experience for its audience. The wardrobe supervisor doesn’t always share the same sentiment. “The shoulders must be puffier!”

The Big Payback begins to fade near the half as subtle earth runs solo missions. Still smooth.

Light coffee starts to mosey in from time to time.

Smoke rolling™ was employed quite a bit due to the burn frequently wandering, but I never had to reach for my lighter, so I’ll mark that as an observation instead of a complaint.

A spilt develops from top to bottom. I’m close enough to the end that I’m not going to sweat it, and I’m also not going to worry about taking it to the nub. There are only so many hours in the day.

Would I buy another? I’m more of a toro fan, so, no. However, if mild-medium to medium is your thing and you’ve got some time on your hands, go for it.

SMOKE TIME: 2 hrs. 33 mins.

RATING: 2.75 / 4 - The shoulders are fine.
