Updated: Dec 25, 2021

AUGUST 4, 2021 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

ARTURO FUENTE RARE PINK VINTAGE 1960’S WORK OF ART (4 7/8 x 46-60)

WRAPPER: ECUADOR

BINDER: UNDISCLOSED

FILLER: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, NICARAGUA

The dark brown wrapper rests beautifully under the exquisitely detailed bands, which are gorgeous.

Dry hay, raisin, and a hint of chocolate present nice, subtle aromas from the foot and wrapper.

The Rare Pink greets me with an excellent draw and smoke output right from light up. Notes of butter, leather, and cedar start us out.

A quick punch of leather defines the retrohale, and a boatload of leather and a touch of cedar hold down the finish. Some fruit is trying to play as well.

Thanks to Agnese for getting this cigar to me!

As I move through the first third, cinnamon starts out the pulls, with cedar and butter doing most of the talking.

Leather in the retrohale has been joined by a slight bit of earth.

The leather in the finish has settled down considerably, but there is a slight bit of harshness that jumps in and quickly fades. By the end of the first third, the harshness has completely disappeared.

The burn is threatening to go a little haywire, but I’m going to let it roll for right now.

Earth, wood, and a subtle sweetness add a nice aroma to the room.

A major burn touch-up was required as I entered the second third. The ash is solid.

Earth, leather, and a little sweetness are offered up to me, with the retrohale providing some leather and a bit of harshness.

The finish begins with leather and harshness, leaving me with coffee, which fades slowly.

The burn required more help as I was exiting the second third. Another fairly major touch-up.

I’m recording a video review for this cigar, and I might have captured a fairly sexy smoking shot. Might put it in slow motion to really capture the sexiness. Might be too sexy. Anyway.

Earth and wood present the only notable flavors in the final third, and the retrohale provides its own dose of earth with leather kicking up at the end.

Leather, wood, and coffee sprint through the finish.

“Love Conquers All!” stands as the Rare Pink’s driving theme, which you can read more about on Arturo Fuente's site. I love the theme, but the cigar was just okay.

While the draw, smoke output, and aroma took the high honors for the Rare Pink, I was hoping for a little more.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 30 mins.

RATING: 2 / 4 - Great theme, okay cigar.
