MATILDE RENACER | CIGAR REVIEW

DECEMBER 11, 2022 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

MATILDE RENACER TORO BRAVO (6 1/2 x 54)

WRAPPER: ECUADOR

BINDER: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

FILLER: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, NICARAGUA

An initially resistant draw brings in wood, earth, and milk chocolate. I say “initially resistant”, as I’m hopeful the draw will get better.

Spice delicately cleans the nostrils, which allows earth to comfortably float around. The finish is slightly creamy, helping to both tame the spice and emphasize the chocolate at the same time.

Graphite begins to play on the outskirts of chocolate and subtle fruit. Toastiness messes around a bit. Waffles tiptoe around. Not sure if they’re from the Waffle House. I’ve never actually been there, but I did play in a band with a lead singer who loved his Waffle House hat. Loved it. He also loved getting drunk and forgetting lyrics.

A nearly sheathed ash holds strong but breaks away easily. The burn walks a straight line. Johnny Cash would’ve been proud. Of course, I’m just guessing. There’s no way to actually know that now.

What about that draw? My hopefulness did not pay off, and I’m callin’ it quits as the wrapper begins to snap, crackle, and split.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 41 mins.

RATING: 2.5 / 4 - Waffle House?
